2 of 4 Lace Slouch Hat (Finished!)

These lace slouch hats certainly take it out of me. The first one took a couple of weeks to complete, but this lovely lady (it's a girl) took me, what, nearly two months? Easily 6 weeks of work.

Sheesh.

Honestly though, they're worth it because they're *gorgeous*. The pattern is a must-have for anyone who gives handmade gifts or likes to have pretty, luxurious things themselves.

I'm crocheting items for charity.

This is the first - 1 of 4 - completed hats.

So pretty. :) I'm definitely planning to hoard the yellow one for myself. So, technically, only 3 will be available for Charity-Fundraiser purchase. BUT if I wear it out and about and people *ask* me about my hat, it gives me a nice opening to talk up Meal-a-Day. Plus, it's sunshiney yellow, and I need all the sunshine I can get this time of year.

Hiccups and Hats (Finished!)

A friend of mind requested a newsboy style hat for her very-adorable new baby. Eeee, baby hats!

I had a couple hiccups in the making of this hat. The first hiccup occurred when I looked at the listed measurements for a 3-6 month old hat and declared to myself, "Oh no, that's much too small," and proceeded to make just a smidge bigger.

Three quarters of the way done and I suddenly realized the hat was much to large. To prove it to myself, I plunked it down on my 2 year old's blonde head. Fit like a glove (but in a hat sort of way). So, I unraveled the majority and began again. Note to self: Babies are that small. And math doesn't lie.

The second hiccup occurred when I went it came time to photograph the hat. Laying it flat was a bit uninspired. Where's a 3 month old when you need one? So I dug through the not-very-vast collection of stuffed animals my boys have acquired and this little St. Bernard popped right out, ready for the task of hat wearing. He's too small, but you get the idea.

Finishing touches. :) Now to pack it up and mail it out!

What's New? (Charity)

Here's some pictures of what I'm working on for my charity project. This hat is One of Four (green one is in progress!)

My little helper, keeping me company. Look at his pudgy little fingers. Look at them. He's so smushable!!

Tagged and ready for sale!!

Care instructions for the purchaser. It's the little things. :)

$50. More than I'd ever pay for a hat (of course, I can just make my own). I justified the price because 1) this item is hand made 2) it took forever 3) lace weight yarn is a wee-tad tedious to work with and 4) it's for charity!

Some more stuff ready for the mini-sale in December. Scarves, a flower garland (and that hat again!).

Oh yes, and I replenished the pins. A bunch of them (and the earrings) sold during the last fundraiser, so I figured I'd keep up with demand.

This is Ringo. He's thrilled to be a part of the charity work as well. And by thrilled, I mean contemptuous. Contempt is really the only emotion cats are capable of. But he's sooooo smushy!! The boys adore him, as do I.

Yeaaah, I don't think this one is for sale....

....but it's "sister" pin is!

Also in the works (besides the 3 other slouch hats) are a few more scarves, a couple pairs of fingerless gloves, and *earrings*! I love earrings. You can't have too many. Just sayin'.

So just yesterday, in a burst of ambition, I made a to-do list for the day. Yeah, it's more like a to-do list for the week. #2 on this Very Ambitious List was commit (and make) a couple berets for a friend.

Following the pattern for the Striking Doily Beret, I ended up with this:

So beautiful! I typically don't wear this style of hat... I typically don't wear hats at all unless the weather forces me to, but this one may have changed that for me. Slouchy and lacy? Yes, I'll take one of those!! And I'm just thrilled with this pattern, especially because the first pattern I attempted was nothing but trouble. Definitely check out Kristi's Blog and give it a go! You need 1 skein of yarn and a 5mm hook. Das it!

Sweet Shells Hat (New!)

Sweet Shells Hat

The "Sweet Shells" hat came about when a friend asked me, "Can you make that?" I answered, "Yep!" And then I did. The result was better than I anticipated, so I wrote it out as quickly as I could.

And then realized how annoying it is to have to buy multiples of the same pattern in different sizes to fit the various heads in your house.

So last night I spent a few hours working out *all* the sizes- Newborn through Adult.

The above are sizes 6-12 months. I'm *loving* the magenta + grey mix. Love, love, loving, I say!

Take a look at this shell pattern. I've been admiring it a tad compulsively- I love the shells, but I also love the diagonal lines running through (did you notice those?) and I love the floweryness of it and the way it scallops on at the bottom.

Oh, and speaking of flowers, I've included the how-to for this Rose. The perfect hat needs the perfect touch.

Since I love making this hat so much I'm considering making them to order on Etsy! Of course I'll let you blog followers know exactly when that's happening.

Thankful for November (Fantastic Finds)

November's here! I'm thankful for another upcoming Thanksgiving with my little family. :) 

Do you decorate with crochet for the autumn? I have my little nesting bowls out, filled with rocks and acorns and some stuffed pumpkins I made years ago. That's it. :) But I did find a use for that gorgeous, mustard colored yarn... you've gotta scroll through these Fantastic Finds first to see what's come from it. My *favorite* is the party garland. Oh- so festive and fun! And the bikini cracks me up a bit. The ear-hats are super trendy right now, and how bout that teensy little purse? And the matchy hats for twins or BFFs? Delightful!
