What's New? (Charity)

Here's some pictures of what I'm working on for my charity project. This hat is One of Four (green one is in progress!)

Tagged and ready for sale!!

Care instructions for the purchaser. It's the little things. :)

$50. More than I'd ever pay for a hat (of course, I can just make my own). I justified the price because 1) this item is hand made 2) it took forever 3) lace weight yarn is a wee-tad tedious to work with and 4) it's for charity!

Some more stuff ready for the mini-sale in December. Scarves, a flower garland (and that hat again!).

Oh yes, and I replenished the pins. A bunch of them (and the earrings) sold during the last fundraiser, so I figured I'd keep up with demand.

This is Ringo. He's thrilled to be a part of the charity work as well. And by thrilled, I mean contemptuous. Contempt is really the only emotion cats are capable of. But he's sooooo smushy!! The boys adore him, as do I.

Yeaaah, I don't think this one is for sale....

....but it's "sister" pin is!

Also in the works (besides the 3 other slouch hats) are a few more scarves, a couple pairs of fingerless gloves, and *earrings*! I love earrings. You can't have too many. Just sayin'.

Pin It (New!)

 

Being a tad particular about my crochet, specifically crochet that I plan to sell, I ordered the above pins online.

I waited... and waited... and checked my front step for a box and waited some more.

(Dear Joann's, you have the slowest shipping ever.

 $5.95 for 7-10 business days on an item that could 

fit in an envelope and arrive via USPS in 2?

 But, I will resist complaining.) 

Finally, I looked out and saw it- the huge cardboard box. Within this huge box was plastic air filled packaging. Under that, 2 tiny, 50 piece baggies full of gold and silver pins. "2.25" Coil-less Safety Pins".

These coil-less pins are not found in stores -trust me on that. I had to order them online. And I did, because in the years I've been crocheting, every time I make a pin the same horrid thing happens: the yarn gets pinched in the coil. Pulled, frayed, stuck, it's in the Top 10 Crochet Pet Peeves list easily. Standard safety pins are not only un-removable, but will also damage, destroy, maim, harm, rip, tear, fray your beautiful crochet. No good.

But with *these* pins, well, they're remarkably gentle on the crochet and are easily removed (if you want to wear the pin in your hair, say, and need a bobby pin in place of a safety pin). 

Sold on the pins? Me too. And now, I present the latest addition to my Etsy shop:

Peacocks, Pins & Crochet

No shawl/capelet/stole/call-it-what-you-will is complete without something gorgeous.

And lately I've been on a huge peacock kick because they are, well, gorgeous.

And I reaaaally love pins. It's a nice way to finish an item without the commitment that buttons demand. (Though I will forever be smitten with Button Love.)
